Dimapur, January 9: Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio inaugurated Mon International Trade Fair and Expo on January 7 at Mon local ground under the theme “Exploring new market opportunities and expanding sales network”.
During the inaugural function, Rio stated that such trade expo gives opportunities to the entrepreneurs and manufacturers to show case their products to prospective customers.
Mon is one of the most important strategic districts of Nagaland with boundaries of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Myanmar. It is also the Land of Anghs as well as the Handicraft District known for its unique handicraft and art forms. This trade fair and expo will help the entrepreneurs of the district to have opportunities which will help in building partnership and access network, he said.
Rio said the expo will also give opportunity to youth and the entrepreneurs to showcase our products to attract investors willing to take our organic products and handicrafts. There is no shortage of natural resources in Nagaland provided we go for exploration, he said. And we also hold rich promises for export of crops like coffee, cardamom, peppers and spices, he added.
Rio stated that Northeast as a whole has a rich bio-diversity hotspot with rare medicinal plants and herbs where we should start exploring the nature. He mentioned that the state government is trying for promoting growth of trade and business as facilitators, support and to maintain peaceful atmosphere. He said that it is heartening and commendable that the expo is being held in Mon which is outside the usual venues of Dimapur and Kohima and this is just a beginning for which he appreciated the District administration of Mon headed by DC and all the organisers. Rio also exhorted the gathering to start banking culture to get loan from the bank for business, farming and entrepreneurs for business.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Ministers Metsubu Jamir and Paiwang Konyak and Advisors Longrineken, Imnatiba, Noke Wangnao, Pohwang Konyak, Bongkhao Konyak and MLAs Thongwang Konyak and Eshak Konyak.
Earlier Thavasselan K, IAS DC Mon gave the welcome address and Imnalensa, IPS, SP Mon delivered the vote of thanks.
The Expo will continue till January 17, and is being organised by the District administration, Mon in collaboration with Nagaland Handloom& Handicraft Promotion Council (NHHPC). (Page News Service)
