CM cautions WC NNPGs, SF to be ‘very careful’

Kohima, June 5: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today called upon both the security forces and the Working Committee of Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) to be “very careful” in dealing with issues that may create problem in the ongoing Naga political negotiations.
Responding to quick queries from reporters on the sidelines of the World Environment Day celebration here, Rio said the State Government on Monday held a high level security coordination meeting which was attended by officers of intelligence, Assam Rifles, CRPF and Nagaland Police besides the State Chief Secretary and senior officers and discussed on important issues, including the reported raids by Assam Rifles and suspension of negotiation by the working committee of NNPGs with GoI.
Observing that the Assam Rifles and police must be conducting raids based on specific information, Rio cautioned both sides (security forces and working committee) saying “these small things should not come in the way of the big issue (Naga political negotiations) which is going on for the last 21 years”.
“Everybody has to be very careful and be within the limitations and restrain from problems which may hamper the negotiation,” he said.
“We have to be very careful in dealing with sensitive issues so they have to resolve the issue because what happened and transpired is not the state government but it is between the ceasefire groups who are taking the negotiation and paramilitary forces,” he said.
The Chief Minister also said that people want settlement and all this “stray incidents” and issues cannot prevent the negotiation.
“So we hope good sense will prevail and they (working committee) have to come and talk across the table so that they resolve the issue, otherwise not going or not talking will not solve the problem. Both parties and everybody should be serious towards finding solution. I hope things will be alright,” Rio added. (Page News Service)
