Clueless CEO creates confusion
Chief Electoral Officer Nagaland, Abhijit Sinha, IAS address press conference on February 26 at Kohima

Kohima, March 3: The office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Nagaland today appeared to be clueless on the results of elections in some constituencies in the State, creating confusion and apprehension among the public.
Addressing a press conference on the results, CEO Nagaland Abhijit Sinha declared that NPF has won 27 seats, BJP – 12, NDPP – 17 (including Rio), NPP – 2, JD (U) – 1 and one Independent.
However, the CEO Nagaland, who was present along with his Additional CEO, N Moa Aier in the press conference, made a confusing statement declaring that the NPF win in Tening A/C by Namduadi Rangkau Zeliang had been put on hold as recounting is being held for the said constituency.
However, by 7 pm on Saturday, there were reports that the recount was complete and Namri Nchang of NDPP has won by 283 votes. Earlier NR Zeliang of NPF was declared to have won from the constituency.
The CEO was also not able to provide the winning margins of candidates, specially with regard to Noklak A/C where BJP candidate H Haiying was reported to have won against three times winner P Longon by just five votes.
On the insistence of the media persons for an accurate result, the CEO assured to return back within half-an-hour with the details but he and his officials along with that of CEO media cell never returned to give the final figure.
As per all indication, the Election authority in Nagaland was not at all well prepared to conduct the election here, perhaps after being influenced by the call for “solution before election”, and which was clearly visible and observed during the process for election, the election day and on the result declaration day in almost all parts of the State on Saturday.
