Dimapur, February 21: The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has served 7-days ultimatum to the the Commissioner of Excise, Dimapur to close down all liquor shops, outlets and thoroughly check flow of liquor into Dimapur and strictly adhere to the rules and regulations laid down under the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition Act, 1989.
In a press release, the DNSU warned that failure to comply with the ultimatum will force the students’ union to take its own course of action for which the concerned department will be held solely responsible for any untoward consequences.
The release informed that the DNSU in its 4th presidential meeting on February 10 thoroughly deliberated on the issue of liquor/alcohol and its negative impact on the youths/students and the public in general despite the State Government implementation of NLTP Act 1989 to curb the menace.
“The said Act is found to be just theoretical and not practical in nature since its inception. Having so much of analysis and studies, it is found that the Excise department had shown enough leniencies towards the sellers/producers/suppliers of liquor in Diimapur,” rued DNSU while issuing the 7-day ultimatum, which will come into effect from the date of publication of the same.
