Classic Cup: Kohima Bible College blanks Brotherhood FC

Kohima, November 2: The 24th edition of Classic Cup organized by Classic Club Kohima on the theme “Live it up” commenced today at local ground here with NPF MLA, Chotisuh Sazo gracing the inaugural programme.
Playing a one-sided opener, Kohima Bible College blanked Brotherhood Football Club by 4 goals.
In the 60 minute game, Tekwilo Mekrisuh opened the account in the 8th minute off a corner from Murohu D Sakhamo. A right footer from Talizhu Taupzz in the 24th minute doubled the lead while Peteneilhou Paunuo made it three in the 29th minute to end the first half.
After the lemon break, Kohima Bible College continued the attack with Kevilezo Sachü sealing the match with the fourth goal for the team in the 41st minute.
Brotherhood FC got an opportunity to score a face saver in the dying minutes of second half but Anthony’s shot missed the target.
Earlier, in his inaugural address, MLA Sazo while congratulating Classic Club members for organizing the tournament said football needs to be promoted at the grassroots drawing the players from every sport clubs and Classic Club has been providing the platform for the Naga youths to exhibit their talent.
In this, he requested the young players to play good football and exhibit their skills so that they can be the future of the sport in the state.
Stating that winning and losing is a part of the game, Sazo said “a good player is one who can accept both defeat and victory with smile and grace”.
Expressing that Nagaland has produced few national and international players in various games, he encouraged young Nagas to take softball, sepaktakraw, shooting, archery, etc. which provides more scope for Naga youth to prosper.
Classic Club president K. Neibou Sekhose announced that in this edition the champion will receive cash prize of Rs 1.5 lakh and runners-up – Rs 80,000 but the prizes for Classic Cup 2019 will be doubled as part of the silver jubilee year of the club.
There will also be individual prizes for people choice, best goal keeper, best defence, best midfield, best forward, highest scorers and player’s of the tournament.
The year-long celebration will also be marked by sponsoring five sportspersons, sponsoring five less privileged students, to strengthen the Kohima Orphanage Home library, Christmas with Orphanage and Old Age Home, to organise workshop /seminar with NGOs in order to have a better understanding and cooperation for the welfare of the people, to undertake tour to all the 11 districts and north eastern states for propagation of the message of peace, inter-school dance competition, music concert for less privileged children, special award to three best NGOs, Classic Award 2019 and the jubilee will be culminated with the grand finale of 25th Classic Cup 2019.
