Nagaland News

Kohima, November 13: There are reports of heavy clashes between Naga armed groups in Myanmar.
Sources said clashes erupted between the National Socialist Council of Nagaland led by Yung Aung and NSCN led by Starson and Niki Sumi, near Layshi Township not far from the Indo-Myanmar border. The clash reportedly erupted this morning and continued till evening. So far there was no report casualty, but the situation remains tense in the area.
After the split of NSCN (K) the group led by Yung Aung was trying to push out the rival group from Myanmar.
The Naga civil society organizations have been trying to broker peace between the two groups to avoid bloodshed. But they also don’t want factions in Naga inhabited areas in Myanmar (Eastern Nagaland).
In another development at least seven members of Nagaland-based armed group led by a kilonser (minister), have defected to NSCN (K) led by Yung Aung.
One source said the defectors were welcomed by senior functionaries at General Headquarters, in an undisclosed location in Myanmar.
