Citizens take up “Keep our city Clean” campaign

Kohima, March 6: Concerned about the health hazards of unclean surrounding, a group of people have come together and launched a campaign “Keep Our City Clean” (KOOC) Kohima on the theme “Together we can” here on Friday.
The group comprises of well-known businessmen, contractors, educationists and church workers of the State capital brought forth musician Senti Semy, student volunteers, archers, body builders and taekwondo players to create awareness among the general public on the need to maintain a clean environment.
Organising convener of the KOOC Kohima, Khriehuzo Lohe speaking during the brief launching programme of the campaign said the need of the hour for the people is to come out together to keep the city clean.
“We cannot just leave it to the Kohima Municipal Council, authorities of Smart City or the urban department to keep our city clean, but we must be the main players in the effort,” he said.
Urging the denizens to come out to contribute, work and clean the capital city, Lohe appealed all to make the KOOC campaign the priority of everyone.
The campaigners will make effort towards coordinating with all NGOs, including the village welfare organizations, student and youth bodies, different local and non-local communities, schools and colleges, security forces and taxis and city bus unions to join the campaign, he said.
Maintaining that the campaign will cover the roads, pedestrian footpaths, over bridge and important place and spots in and around Kohima, Lohe said the different forms of awareness campaigns and also social works will be conducted on a routine basis to have a clean Kohima.
