Chumu & Kohima lifts first State Level Pre-Subroto cum Junior Football Tournament

Kohima, June 11: Chumoukedima and Kohima districts today lifted the champions trophy of the first State Level Pre-Subroto cum Junior Football Tournament 2024.
Chumoukedima defeated Peren district in the final of Under-15 Boys tournament by a solitary goal scored in the extra time as the teams were locked in goalless draw during the stipulated 60 minutes play.
The goal came from the boots of Lamminlen Thangeo in the dying minutes of the extra time.
Kiphire district won the third play by defeating Wokha 2-1 in the hardline match.
In the Girls U-17 final match, Kohima district defeated Noklak 3-0 to lift the trophy.
Tokothono Thami, Khuloi P. and Zangyoa Konyak netted a goal each for the champs.
Chumoukedima bagged the third place defeating Zunheboto by 3-0.
The winners received trophies, medals and citations.
The Boys team will be representing the state at Bangalore and the Girls team at Delhi for the Subroto Cup while the Department would be conducting special coaching camps for them.
The individual awards are as follows:
U-15 BOYS:
1. Highest Scorer: L Paogouhao Hengma, Chümoukedima, and Lamminlen Thangeo, Chümoukedima with 9 goals each.
2. Best Goalkeeper: Lenminngam Sinson, Peren
3. Best Midfielder: Seisanglum, Chümoukedima
4. Best Defender: Mangkholen Hangsing, Peren
5. Player of the Tournament: Lamgouchung Hangsing, Peren
6. Most Promising Player: Kipen E Murry, Wokha.
U-17 GIRLS:
1. Highest Scorer: Chonghoilhing Guite, Chümoukedima
2. Best Goalkeeper: Vivotsonu Pusa, Chümoukedima
3. Best Midfielder: Moniu C, Noklak
4. Best Defender: Mhalo P Mozhui, Kohima
5. Player of the Tournament: Mhalo P Mozhui, Kohima
6. Most Promising Player: Nounevinuo, Kohima
Earlier, gracing the valedictory function, Deputy Chief Minister T R Zeliang lauded the efforts of Department of Youth Resources and Sports for organizing the tournament to tap the talent of the budding footballers in the State in collaboration with Nagaland Football Association (NFA).
Zeliang asserted that the state government has been supporting in organizing the Subroto Team over the years.
This Tournament is fully funded by the Government of Nagaland and is a part of the Sectoral Outlay under State Plan, he said. However, this is the first time that the Department of YRS organized the District Level Tournament as well as the current State Level event.
The Deputy CM also mentioned about the three youngsters – Lalminkai Thompson, Asa Ayemi and Nitoka Tamang who were selected to undergo Football Coaching in Germany.
“We have high hope on such young talented players who have made the State proud,” he said while reminding the young footballers that sports play a very important role in the overall development of human lives.
A good education system is not based only on development of the mind but is equally focused on the development of the physical body, he said.
Zeliang, therefore, urged the young friends to make sports an integral part of one’s life.
Director YRS Kethosituo Sekhose chaired the function while Additional Director Megolhu Dolie tendered the vote of thanks and Pastor of Union Baptist Church, Kohima Visato Yhoshü offered thanksgiving prayer.
