Dimapur, June 16: With an aim to create a platform for children and parents to have some fun, stree-free time and also to invest their time productively during the lockdown, CHILDLINE Dimapur conducted a series of online contest/activities for children based on the theme, “Plastic Waste to life”.
The contest was categorized as per different age groups which were held on various days between May 16 and June 5. The event was coordinated by two interns, Shalu Kumari and. Shania Singhania Agarwal, students of Christ Deemed to be University, Bengaluru.
On the first day a session on ways and techniques of Reducing, Reusing and Recycling single use plastics by creatively turning used plastic bottles and containers into beautiful planters, hanging planters, pen-stands and boxes was held. They were also taught how to decorate their models using acrylic paints, old clothes, wool and thread.
On the following days, children participated in free hands painting. To mark the celebration of World Environment Day, the participants were also asked to plant tree saplings to encourage one another about being environmental friendly.
Following this, an essay writing competition was held for the age group of 11-16 years on the theme ”Plastic waste management”. Children came up with creative and unique ideas about plastic reduction. Cash prizes were given to the winners of each contest along with e-certificates to all the participants.
The overwhelming response and the creativity shown by the children in their craft models and essay writing was the highlight of the entire programme. 165 children participated in the series of online contest initiated by CHILDLINE Dimapur along with the said interns from Christ Deemed to be University, Bengaluru.
