Child rights ambassador launched in Mon

Dimapur, November 29: World Day for Prevention of Child Abuse and launch of child rights ambassador was organized by Mon District Administration in collaboration with District Child Protection Unit and Child Welfare Committee on November 19 at Mon Town Council Hall.
Deputy Commissioner Mon, Thavaseelan K, IAS launched the child rights programme for Mon District. One boy and one girl from each school will be designated as child rights ambassadors.
The DC in his speech said prevention is the best solution and timely intervention for rescue of a child in a potentially abusive situation is the need of the hour. He said that child rights ambassadors should actively advocate and promote the rights of the children. He added that active functioning of the child protection mechanism at various levels is key to providing children with a safe environment in which they can learn and thrive.
Ngamkhao Konyak, Counsellor, Sakhi – One Stop Centre Mon spoke on child rights and preventive measures for child abuse. Samuel Kapu, District Child Protection Officer delivered the keynote address. Students, teachers and various stakeholders participated in the programme. (Page News Service)
