Kohima, November 27: Chieneinuo Brothers Kiruphema today emerged as the new champion in men’s category while Elite Sisters lifted women’s category for the third consecutive edition of the 7th Kohima District Open Volleyball Tournament (men & women) organized by Kohima District Volleyball Association at local ground here.
Playing a one sided final match in men’s category, Chieneinuo Brothers Kiruphema defeated Khonoma Youth Organization in straight sets 25-17, 25-17 and 25-21 to lift the trophy, along with cash award of Rs 40,000. As runners-up Khonoma Youth Organization got Rs 25,000.
Semifinalists Michazou Mima and Kiruphema Youth Organization got Rs 5,000 each.
The individual category winners of men’s event were: Best spiker – Kelhusalie Pier of Khonoma Youth Organisation and Best Setter – Menusielie Hojah of Chieneinuo Brothers. Both of them received Rs 2,000 each.
In the women’s category, Elite Sisters blanked Kezo Town Youth Organization in straight set in the final match to win the trophy for the third consecutive year.
Winning the final match, they got Rs 30,000 while Kezo Town Youth Organization received Rs 15,000 as runners-up.
Khavili Kive of Elite Sisters bagged best spiker award while Kejuvile of Kezo Town Youth Organisation got the best setter award with both of them receiving Rs 2,000 each. Tokiho Swu of Elite Sisters was adjudged as the best coach of the tournament and received Rs 2,000.
Joint Director of Youth Resources and Sports, Megolhou Dolie gracing the valedictory session as the special guest distributed prizes to the winners.
