Dimapur, August 15: The 17th Governor’s Award 2019 in Arts, Music and Literature was conferred to Charles Chasie and Dreamz Unlimited on the occasion of the 73rd Independence Day in the category of literature and arts respectively at Durbar Hall Raj Bhavan, Kohima today. The awardees were given a cheque of Rs 5 lakhs, silver plaque, certificate and a shawl.
Governor Nagaland, RN Ravi while congratulating the recipients thanked the government for honoring distinguished men and women of art, music and literature on the auspicious day. He said art, music and literature are the mirrors of aspirations and expectations of a society.
Sating that Naga society of today is inheritor of over thousands years of rich cultural and traditional legacies, he said the way the Naga villages have been organized in self-sustaining manner for so many centuries shows the richness of their inherent strength.
He urged Naga artists, musicians and intellectuals to delve deep into the philosophical richness of their cultural past, and present it to the present and future generations of Nagas. He hoped that the initiatives of the state government will facilitate and motivate the young and talented youth of the state to pursue their dreams and aspirations, bring laurels and glory to the state and to the country.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio thanked the Governor for supporting and encouraging the youth who are disciplined in their profession. He said Nagas have been blessed with talents but we are not committed on it besides not getting the right opportunity to manifest our talents.
There was a times with no conducive atmosphere which was compounded by difficult situations and circumstances in our society yet many had excelled in their profession inspite of challenges, he said. On art, music and literature, the chief minister said it carries a very significant message and conveys positivism to the people and exhibit our character in a humorous way.
Charles Chasie is a Kohima based journalist and author by profession. He has published many books touching mostly on social-cultural life and politics of Nagaland. His books included “Age-old ties: Pfutseromi & Khwuno Thevo” (2013), “Bearing Witness” (2011), “Nagas Today: Indigenous Discourse” (2010-11), Geeti Sen’s Edited ” Where the Sun Rises When Shadow fall: The North East” (2006), “The Naga Imbroglio : A personnel perspective”. He has also directed and produced documentaries like “The beginning of life” and “For the sake of Tomorrow.” He was felicitated by the Media Trust in 2007 for his contributions in literature. He is a leading luminary in the field of literature and social activities.
Dreamz Unlimited is a theater and film production house based in Dimapur. The group formation can be traced to the year 2008 after an intensive theatre workshop conducted by the National School of Drama, New Delhi in collaboration with NEZCC, Dimapur. They have performed plays based on social issues mixed with satire and humor for some churches, civil societies, NGOs and Government Department with the motto ‘bringing a change’. They have a YouTube channel where they consistently upload short videos on the trending topics.
At present, it has more than 2,17,000 subscribers which is the highest in the State.
