CEO Nagaland reconstitutes MCMC- Nagaland prepares for LS Poll

Dimapur, March 12: CEO Nagaland, Abhijit Sinha, IAS has reconstituted the state level Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) for conduct of general election to the Lok Sabha, 2019 with the following: Chairman – Abhijit Sinha, IAS Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland; member secretary – Khekugha Sema, Jt. Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland; and members – One Observer appointed by the ECI; Limawati Ao, Director, Information & Public Relations; Shahu Patole, IIS, Deputy Director, News, AIR, Kohima; Alice Yhoshu, Journalist & General Secretary, Press Club & Liyo Kikon, Proprietor, Indihut.
The State Level MCMC shall decide appeal from both District and Additional CEO Committees on Certification of advertisement as per the commission order No.509/75/2004/JS-I Dated 15th April 2004 and examine all cases of paid news on appeal against the decision of District MCMC or cases that may take up suo motu, in which case it shall direct the concerned ROs to issue notices to the candidates.
Pol parties meeting: In view of the general election to Lok Sabha 2019 and bye-election to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly from 26-Aonglenden (ST) Assembly Constituency to be held simultaneously, CEO Nagaland has convened a meeting with all political parties on March 14, at 11 am, at Tapi Hall, Hotel Japfu, Kohima.
All political parties have been informed to depute at least three representatives positively to attend the meeting.
Kohima: Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Kohima, Anoop Khinchi held a meeting with all representatives of political parties in his office chamber on Tuesday.
In the meeting, the DC & DEO briefed on the Modal Code of Conduct (MCC), which has to be followed by the candidates and political parties. He said that the basic purpose of MCC was to create a level playing field where no parties should put it in advantage or disadvantage because of any muscle or money power in position and further urged them to go through the guidelines given by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
He also highlighted on procedures to be followed during the conduct of rallies, specifically not to carry any weapons by the people in order to avoid any untoward incident and asked all the political parties to take care during such rallies. He further stressed on the defacement of public building by the candidates or political parties which has to be adhere as per the ECI guidelines.
Pointing out that expenditure account is very important, the meeting deliberated on the rate chart for Kohima district for Election Expenditure Monitoring and decided to approve the election expenditure account. He informed about the ECI discouraging the use of plastic materials and urged them not to use any plastic materials and opt for some environmental friendly materials which will be helpful for all the parties and candidates. He also informed on the directive given by the ECI on voter slip, stating that the voter slip would not be accepted as sole prove of identity this time and requested the political parties to take the matter seriously and propagate the information to everyone to produce EPIC or any of the eleven documents mentioned by the ECI on the polling day.
Peren: A coordination meeting for all the recognized political parties under Peren District was held at ADC office chamber on March 12 in connection with Lok Sabha Election 2019.
DC and ARO Peren, Sarita Yadav briefed on the enforcement of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and various provision as per the order of ECI instruction. She also informed that for organizing rally, campaign permission has to be taken from the authority.
ADC/ARO Peren Albert Ezung appraised the political party representatives that everything would be imposed according to the rules of General Election Model of Conduct. A team of Income Tax officials would be in station during the election period, he said.
Tuensang: Deputy Commissioner, Tuensang, Mohammed Ali Shihab held a combined meeting with GBs and ward presidents of Tuensang town at DC office on March 12. The meeting deliberated on the upcoming election which is to be conducted next month.
The DC appealed to the gathering to be free from corruption and to conduct the election in the true spirit of democracy which in return will make it possible to maintain peaceful atmosphere in the town.
Wokha: Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer, Wokha, Dr.Manazir Jeelani Samoon, IAS following enforcement of Model Code of Conduct after the announcement of election, has asked all Head of Departments under Wokha District to submit the development/construction activities immediately by the evening of March 12 – List of work which has already been started on ground and list of fresh work which has not started on ground.
Further all Head of Departments under Wokha District have been requested to remove photograph of political functionary from official website immediately as per model code of conduct. In event to comply with the ECI instruction, the concerned HoD will be held responsible.
