Dimapur, February 18: Chief Electoral Officer, Abhijit Sinha, IAS held a meeting with the members of state level Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) for the forthcoming General Election to Lok Sabha today.
Sinha highlighted the functions of MCMC such as pre-certification, paid news and media monitoring. He also suggested organizing a media workshop on media related regulations, paid news and Model Code of Conduct cases.
Meanwhile, the MCMC for conduct of general election to Lok Sabha 2019 has been constituted with Abhijit Sinha, IAS, Chief Electoral Officer Nagaland as Chairman; One Observer appointed by the ECI as member; Limawati Ao, Director, Information & Public Relations as member; Shahu Patole, IIS, Deputy Director, News, AIR, Kohima as member; Alice Yhoshu, Journalist & General Secretary, Kohima Press Club as member and Khegukha Sema, Jt. Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland as member.
The State Level MCMC would perform two sets of functions: (i) Deciding appeal from both District and Addl. CEO Committees on Certification of advertisement as per the Commission order No.509/75/2004/JS-I Dated 15th April 2004; (ii) Examining all cases of Paid News on appeal against the decision of District MCMC or cases that may take up suo motu, in which case it shall direct the concerned ROs to issue notices to the candidates.
