Dimapur, June 30: The Commissioner of Goods and Services Tax, Central GST Dimapur Commissionerate has informed that in a major move towards GST taxpayers’ facilitation, the Government of India has decided to provide the facility of SMS filing of NIL statement of FORM GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B.
At present, taxpayers have to log into their account on the common GST portal and then file their returns every month or each quarter. The facility through SMS from registered mobiles will substantially improve ease of GST compliance for over 12 lakh taxpayers across the country, it said.
In a press release on issued on the eve of GST Day on July 1, the Central GST Dimapur Commissionerate informed that at present there are a total of approximately 10,000 registered taxpayers (both Centre and State jurisdiction combined) in the state of Nagaland. It, however, lamented that in recent months only 60% to 70% among the taxpayers are filing GST returns.
“Non-filing of GST Returns leads to penalty/fine payments and a prolonged period of non filing of GST Returns could even result in cancellation of a GST Registration number,” it informed.
On GST Day, the Central GST Dimapur Commissionerate appealed taxpayers of Nagaland take advantage of the new measures and help improve compliance in filing of their GST returns.
