Dimapur, March 22: The Capital College of Higher Education Kohima held its annual Literary Day 2022 under the theme “Know Your Letters”. Necessitated by the ongoing pandemic, the literary day was held in a blended manner, involving both online and offline competition items. The offline competition items were held on March 16&17. Items such as essay writing, painting, poetry writing and short story writing were held at the college premises while items such as monologue, short story narration and photography were virtually held. The competition days culminated with the award ceremony on March 22.
The award ceremony did not only include the giving of awards but also included presentation from the winners. It was held at Sahitya Sabha. Key note speaker, Vice-Principal, Vevohu Kezo while stating that the theme was aptly chosen expressed that the Nagas are in dire need to enhance their writing skills. He expressed that “We Nagas are comparatively good in speaking but very poor in writing”.
With internet and other media, the habit of reading literature has rapidly declined which has also impacted writing. He reminisced about some of his friends who used to memorize 30 to 40 essays just for competitive exams as they were not confident to write on their own while emphasizing on the importance of writing.
The key note address was followed by declaration of winners and giving away of awards.
