Catholic Church dedicated at Mitelephe, Pungro


Dimapur, December 16: A new Church St. Teresa Church was blessed and dedicated by Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima on Sunday at Mitelephe village.
Bishop James, congratulated Rev. Fr. Charles D’Souza SJ, the Parish Priest, Mary Help of Christian Parish, Jakhama, Sisters and the Catholic community for building the Church with much interest and sacrifice.
In his homily, reflecting on the writing of St. Paul wherein Paul writes, “You are God’s temple” (I Cor 3:16); “Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit” (I Cor 6:19); “We are the temple of the living God” (2 Cor 6:16), the Bishop invited the community to make themselves the living temples by their way of life.
Pungro: The newly built Church under the patronage of St. Paul’s was blessed and dedicated by Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima on December 13.
Bishop James, congratulated Rev. Fr. Sajiom, the Parish Priest, Fr. Stephen Kemp, the Assistant Priest, Sisters and admired the Catholic community in the village for the team work by which they were able to build such a beautiful and church within such a short time.
In his homily, the Bishop appreciated the people of Pungro for the collaboration, hard work, to build the church of God. He asserted that it is easy to build a material structure and it in itself will not give worship to God. It is the Christians who are the real temple, the living temple of the Holy Spirit, who give true worship to God in their heart, he said.
Without true spiritual worship, the external worship in the church will not give glory to God instead bring human satisfaction only, he added.
During the ceremony, the rite of blessing of the whole Church, the Crucifix, the Altar, the Ambo and the Tabernacle took place signifying the sanctity of the place of worship. 46 baptized Catholic also received the sacrament. (Page News Service)
