Guwahati, March 29: The Assam hovernment today launched a women's helpline to tackle the recent spurt in crime in the state. Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal launched the 181-Sakhi' toll free women helpline at a programme held in Janata Bhawan today. Shillong, March 28: The Meghalaya government is constituting a Group of Ministers to study and come up with a solution to the NGT ban on coal mining in the state. Guwahati, March 24: Students of Assam Women's University (AWU), the only institute of its kind in the North East, are agitating to press for permanent vice-chanellor and for transforming it into a full fledged varsity. Minor gangraped and set ablaze

Nagaon (Assam), March 24: A minor girl was allegedly gangraped and set on fire at Dhaniabheti Lalung Gaon in Nagaon district, police said today. One Zakir Hussain and four others raped the Class-V girl when she was alone at home after returning from school last evening, they said. Guwahati, March 22: The Union cabinet has approved the North-East Industrial Development Scheme (NEIDS), 2017, for five years, a scheme which most here believe has replaced the expired the North East Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy (NEIPP), 2007. Assam has highest number of beggars in NE

GUWAHATI, March 22: Assam has the highest number of beggars and vagrants among the northeast states, Union minister for social justice Thawar Chand Gehlot informed the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. Assam also has the fourth highest number of women beggars in the country, the minister added in a written reply to the House.
