Capacity building on anti-war toys

Dimapur, June 4: Playing with toys is an enjoyable means of training the young children at home or in the society. With an aim to help students gain proper knowledge on the use of different types of toys, Capacity Building Programme on “Anti war Toys” was conducted on June 2 at Sacred Heart School Khuzama. It began with a prayer, introduction of the resource person and an ice breaking session initiated by the facilitator.
Resource person, Susan Kulnu began with a brainstorming asking the students on the use of toys during their childhood. She said that there are toys for various ages that entertain and educate children. Playing with toys is an important tool in making a child understands the complex phenomena of the world around it, she said and lamented that some toys that are available, unwittingly encourage factionalism and feud among children and teach them violence and elimination of one another through imitations of dangerous weapons.
Children are also seen to be manipulated into replicating the violence content they see on television, videos, video games, violent cartoons and they tend to imitate these in real life, she added
She concluded by saying that children should choose games that develop team spirit and intelligence , rather than purchasing any war toys like guns, knives, bows and arrows, war planes, etc .
Later the student were invited to take an oath stating that they would strive towards reducing the use of war toys.
