Campaign for legal assistance to the family of prisoners commence


Dimapur, June 20: The Phek District Legal Services Authority launched the campaign for legal assistance to the family of prisoners on June 19 at District Jail, Phek.
Samual Ritse, APP cum Government Pleader, District Court, Phek who stressed about the legal services authority, schemes and right of the accused persons.
Dozhoyi Ciikhamu, Assistant Jailor, District Jail, Phek highlighted about the legal aid clinic at District Jail and also urged the prisoners to reform and become a responsible citizens.
The inaugural speech for the campaign was delivered by Mezivolu T Therieh, Chairperson, Phek DLSA. She also stressed for creating an awareness about the rights, benefits, entitlement under various schemes and program through the campaign.
She also stated that as per the annual report “Prison Statistics India” 2015 published by National Crime Report Bureau (NCRB), Nagaland state has a total inmates population of 499 which ranked at 27th position among the Indian states and Union Territories. At the National level, the total number of jail inmates in India was 419623 with 401789 males and 17834 females. Out of the total jail inmates 134168 were convict and 282076 were UTPs.
Cheliam Khiamniungan, Secretary, Phek DLSA introduced appointed members of Resource Team for the campaign which consists of which is being headed by Vethothi Vero, PA, PDLSA as coordinator
Earlier, Wokha District Legal Services Authority also held its first stage of the campaign for Legal Assistance to the family members of the prisoners on June 18 at District Jail Wokha. Wokha District Legal Services Authority Resource Pool interacted with the Jail Inmates. 28 Inmates were interacted out of which 12 were identified and proforma sheet were filled up.
