DIMAPUR, OCTOBER October 31: The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has accused the BJP of inducing voters of Kiphire-Pungro assembly constituency with “wine” and money to support its candidate in the bye-election.
Kiphire-Pungro A/C is seeing a 5-cornered contest for the November 3 polls. The 5 candidates are Khaseo Anar of Congress, Lirimong Sangtam of BJP and 3 Independents namely S Kiusumew Yimchunger, K Shellumthong Yimchunger and T Yangseo Sangtam.
“Wine and bribing have been found practiced all over the Constituency by BJP at Kiphire-Pungro bye-election. Pungro Village Students Union has captured 24 bottles of IMFL and Rs. 6,00,500/- in cash during frisking,” claimed NPCC president K Therie in a press release.
Therie further alleged: “At Phelungre, Rs. 5 lakh was allegedly paid by BJP candidate to declare in his favour. It is also alleged that BJP is paying a hefty sum to each household as ‘first phase’.”
Claiming that “this is just the tip of the iceberg”, the NPCC president alleged that the BJP have no conscious vote. “Therefore, they have to bribe every voter. They have no manifesto, programmes or issues. They do not talk of development programs neither of social discipline. They cannot even repair the roads and yet, they are asking for votes”, he alleged.
