Bye-Election: Committee constituted to monitor COVID-19 related activities

Dimapur, October 21: In view of the conduct of the bye-election to the 14 Southern Angami I (ST) A/C during the COVID-19 pandemic, and in order to ensure all election related activities are in compliance of the various guidelines on COVID-19 issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the State Government, the Kohima district administration has constituted a committee with ADC HQ Kohima, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa (9436070607) as convener; SDO(C) Jakhama & RO, 14th Southern Angami-I A/C, Ruopfükuotuo Noudi (8731815626) as member; EAC Kohima & ARO of 14 Southern Angami-I A/C, Abeinuo Jasmine Ashao (9774062871) as member secretary and other members included Dy. SP (Reserve), Soriso Quinker (9862088998); AEO Kohima, Toshimeren Aier (9436001957); District Health Officer for bye-election, Dr Rubert Peseyie (9402810551); Sub-Divisional Health Officer for bye-election, Ethungbemo Ezung (9615088075) and DPRO Kohima, Ruopfülenuo H. Mepfhüo (9366765874).
The committee shall be responsible to supervise and monitor all COVID-19 related activities and shall also work out modalities for implementation of the same during the entire election period.
EO meets candidates
Expenditure Observer held a meeting with all the intending candidates for bye election to 14 Southern Angami-I on October 21 in the DC’s conference hall Kohima.
Briefing on the importance of keeping a proper expenditure record, Observer SK Pradhan requested the candidates to maintain evidences to support expenses in order to have a clear accounting process.
Deputy Commissioner and DEO Kohima Mohammed Ali Shihab. A, IAS informed that there are 22 polling stations and a total of 13,641 electors and the poll will be taken between 6 am to 4 pm on November 3 (Tuesday). He requested all to sensitize the citizens that all Covid 19 related guidelines such as maintaining social distancing, wearing of masks, hand wash or sanitizer will be mandatory during public gatherings or rallies. He sought full co-operation from all the candidates for the successful, free, fair, safe and peaceful conduct of election.
He also informed that 2nd randomization of EVM and VVPAT will be conducted on October 26 and requested all the political party representatives for bye election to 14 Southern Angami- I AC to attend the same.
District Contact Centre
Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, Mohammed Ali Shihab IAS has informed political parties, candidates and general public that for election related matters in connection with the bye-election to the 14 Southern Angami I (ST) A/C, a District Contact Centre with toll free number – 1950 has been set up in the Office of the Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Kohima.
DC Kohima appeals
Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer also informed the general public that any offer of cash, liquor, gift items or free food to the electors during election process is bribe. He cautioned that both the persons, offering and accepting such bribes are liable for punishment with imprisonment up to one year and fine.
He informed that flying squads and surveillance teams have been formed to keep watch over such activities and to check movement of items meant for inducement of electors during the election process.
The DC appealed that any member of public may inform such incidents of bribe to the Control Room No. 0370- 2290226 or toll free District Contact Centre 0370-2291285.
