DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 30: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today said that Bloom Bazaar is promoting “Made in Nagaland” and the seeds and the visions Team Nagaland had together have bloomed and that is how Bloom Bazaar was created.
Inaugurating Bloom Bazaar at Heritage Kohima, Rio congratulated the Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN) team, led by Abu Metha and his dedicated officers.
He recalled his first stint as Chief Minister and how that time his Government saw the aspirations and eagerness of Naga youths and realised to translate their hopes and dreams and that’s how the Nagaland State being a tribal State celebrating their own tribal festivals.
He said the Road Show was launched in all the district headquarters to encourage the youth and the people to preserve and promote our culture and celebrating and culminating at the Hornbill Festival which was a State affair, it became a national affair but now it is an international festival which we are all proud of.
He said that in any event be it festivals, conventions, churches or at home, flowers are essential.
Stating that small scale flower businesses have finally grown bigger, Rio said the Government has encouraged floriculture through the Horticulture Department and also created a separate Department for Women ~ Women Development Department ~ to give a special emphasis on floriculture and also Naga wears and dresses.
Rio said that his wife who has keen interest in flowers and that she encouraged flower growers and they have come together and today from a small individual homes to groups level have now reached the commercial level.
Rio said that western countries, when they cannot grow flowers during off season, they import huge quantities for their celebrations. And so India also exports flowers in terms of lakhs and crores and the global flower business market is $100 million market and India has 13% market share, so if Nagas can grow good quality flowers and also know the season when to grow which flowers it would be very beneficial as it would not only employ the growers but the users too.
Foreigners who come for meetings and conventions in Nagaland had at times remarked that the Nagaland flower arrangements are pleasing and attractive, he added.
The Chief Minister thanked bankers for coming forward and giving loans to the flower growers and hoped they will continue to assist as there are hundreds and thousands of growers in need of loan support today in Nagaland.
He encouraged youths, who are into entrepreneurship, to build relationships with the bank and start bank culture.
He also mentioned about the Chief Minister Micro Financing for those whose schemes are viable and wanted to do business any bank will provide loans and for that IDAN is also felicitating loan seekers without any collateral, which is encouraging youths to come forward. He said this Bloom Bazaar is not only a flower show but there are many other items exhibition sales and there’s plenty of reasons to visit the event and encourage entrepreneurs and that we should work together and ensure we grow from strength to strength to build a prosperous Nagaland.
The Chief Minister also gave away cheques to beneficiaries for floriculture business and entrepreneurship in collaboration with financial institutions.
Abu Metha, Advisor to Chief Minister and Chairman IDAN, in his welcome speech said that the Chief Minister had the vision about the event to promote the floriculture industry and thanked him for the guidance.
He said this event is to show the Naga way of life and promote entrepreneurship and to showcase all over the world what Nagaland has to offer and it’s not only about promoting flowers but to boost the floriculture industry, it’s about entrepreneurship, creativity, innovation, art, music and ideas as the Naga entrepreneurs should be the ambassadors of New Nagaland, they will push brand Nagaland in the global community and that Bloom Bazaar will boost economy, generate employment and promote tourism.
In the formal inauguration of Bloom Bazaar, the Chief Minister was accompanied by his wife Kaisa Rio, Speaker, Cabinet Ministers, Advisors, MLAs and Department officials.
