Dimapur, April 29: The Educational Block Resource Centre (EBRC) Samagra Shiksha, Tseminyu is conducting a block level teachers training on “Foundational Literacy and Numeracy” from April 29 to 30 at EBRC hall Tseminyu.
During the inaugural session, Thongsenlo Rengma, Assistant District Coordinator (DMA SS Kohima), stated that no learner can progress in education without solid foundation on literacy and numeracy at an early stages of learning process.
He lamented that despite various interventions, progress report of learners are quite alarming in matters of Learning Outcomes and report of PRATHAM. He emphasised that under NEP 2020, the highest priority of the education system will be to achieve universal foundational literacy and numeracy in primary school by 2025.
Chengeseng Kath, Area Education Officer (AEO) under SDEO Tseminyu, said that teachers have undergone many trainings and are well-equipped. However, he queried whether there was any balance in the system.
Admitting that figures of student enrolment are declining with “even poor parents opting for alternative schools to send their children to study”, he urged the teacher-trainees to adopt plans and policies to reverse the trend.
Resource persons for the training are Rushulo Khing (Coordinator), Francis Rengma (TOT) and Hinilo Cheng (TOT). Altogether 40 schools with 2 specified teachers are participating at the training session.
