BJP gets going for 2024 in NE, eyes ‘enhanced mandate’ in Arunachal

“Modi is ambassador of region’s people and culture”: M Chuba Ao

NEW DELHI, JUNE 4: Through a month-long outreach programme and intense campaign highlighting the achievements of the Modi Government, the BJP has set the ball rolling for the battle of 2024. The party is also eyeing to retain power in Arunachal Pradesh with “enhanced mandate”, BJP national vice president M Chuba Ao said on Sunday.
The Assembly elections are due in Arunachal Pradesh by May 2024 along with the Lok Sabha polls. In the 2019 Assembly polls in Arunachal Pradesh, the BJP had won 41 seats. “This time we are eyeing more number of seats because Arunachal Pradesh is a strategically important State.”
Chuba Ao has been named as in charge of ‘9 years celebration’ of the Modi Government for
eastern Arunachal Pradesh. He has already visited the State and attended a review meeting-cum-interaction programme with the State level committee headed by Zingnu Namchoom (MLA cum-State general secretary). State unit vice president Junty Singpho also attended. The party is organising 2rallies – first on June 6 at Itanagar and the other one on June 9 at Namsai.
Tapir Gao is the incumbent BJP MP representing Arunachal Pradesh East while Union Minister
Kiren Rijiju represents Arunachal Pradesh West. Chuba Ao and Union Minister of State for Education Subhas Sarkar have been also assigned to carry out similar outreach programmes in Outer Manipur and also Sikkim.
“Sikkim attained the stature of the first State in the world to become fully organic in farming in 2018”, said Chuba adding “this is no mean achievement”.
“It goes to the credit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership he provided that the Indian agri scene has changed. The Indian farmer is not just cultivating for India, but is confidently eyeing the world as a market place for its wide-ranging products”, says Chuba, who reached Gangtok on Sunday.
However, he said 3 farm reform bills should have come but the farmers’ agitation derailed them.
To a question, he said, “North East India has benefited immensely during the last 9 years. Of course, the Manipur violence is an aberration and a big challenge but overall the region has achieved many milestones. The focus has been on economic development, internal security, as well as preservation and promotion of the cultural diversity of the region.”
“You may find it repetitive, PM Modi ji ensured that most Ministers and he himself visit Northeast regularly…Delhi reached the doorstep of Northeast. We often say no less than Shri Modi ji has become a sincere ambassador of our region as someone projecting the people, our food and our culture.”
Answering questions, he said, “These had a dramatic impact. We rule the entire region either with the BJP Government or through our allies. We won elections twice in Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Tripura and Manipur.”
“Of course electoral strategies have not been worked out. We have to consult our regional friends but the BJP and NDA will sweep the 2024 polls.”
He further said, “People will definitely reward us for small and big achievements. There was a landmark decision to declare Bamboo as Grass and the launch of the National Bamboo Mission gave a fresh impetus to the production of Bamboo based products.”
“Even our critics agree that there is a drastic change. From being on the margins of the India story, the Northeast is quickly becoming one of India’s key growth engines…The decades of isolation of our region due to connectivity problems and poor infras is now a thing of the past”, Chuba added.
There has been a 76% decline in insurgency in 2022 as compared to the data of 2014, he said adding AFSPA has been relaxed in 75% of the sensitive hubs following improvement on ground situations, he said.
