Bio Medical Waste Management training held at Zbto

Dimapur, March 3: The Bio Medical Waste Management training organized by Nagaland Health Project (NHP) was held from February 26 to March 1, at Youth Hall, Zunheboto.
Dr. C W Tungoe, CMO, Zunheboto delivered the key note address, where he said that Bio Medical Waste Management will be the first step to make our environment safe and create awareness amongst the various categories of staff regarding the responsibilities and the method for segregation and scientific disposal of hospital waste.
Dr. Akaho, Dy.CMO gave an introduction of BMWM, why it is needed, who are responsible for BMWM and what are the steps in BMWM. He also said that Bio Medical Waste Management training will help to reduce bio medical waste hazards and ultimately have an impact on quality of health care and infection free environment.
Ajanuo, explained about the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), importance of PPE and uses of PPE. She also spoke on the importance of Hand Hygiene and Vaccination.
Dr. Shikatoli gave an over view of- BMW segregation, collection, storage, transportation and disposal system. She also highlighted about the importance of BMW segregation colour coded system for waste collection and how to implement BMWM system at health facilities.
Inalu Rochill, BPM, Akuluto block, briefed the participants and explained the rules under BMWM 2016, roles of operator and occupier and duties of central/state govt and pollution control board
Inahoto Chophy, BPM, Aghunato block, emphasised on District Monitoring Committee, (DMC) and composition of DMC, the roles and functions of DMC.
The training was held in four batches comprising of five sessions each and was attended by 238 participants comprising of Medical Officers, Nurses , Medical Attendant, Health Workers from 63 health units, apart from this Dr. Viholi, DTO, RNTCP, DAPCU, NVBDCP and NHM staffs also attended.
The team leader for the training was Dr. Akaho, Dy. CMO, Zunheboto.
