Bid to set Bihu record

Guwahati, August 23: Hiddenidol, a London-based organisation, will conduct the largest gathering of Bihu performers ranging upto 1,000 dancers in each of three places – Guwahati, Bongaigaon and London – for a universal dance record on Sunday at 4.30pm.
“We have invited dance groups and clubs, big and small, all around the state to participate in the universal dance record on August 26. We have been preparing for almost one-and-a-half months. The participants have been asked to practise in their own clubs and schools. We have sent a video to each of these clubs and schools for the practice performance,” said Nibedita Tarafdar, the coordinator of the organisation here.
“The previous record was set with around 1,000 Bihu performers, whereas we are gathering around 3,000 performers on the same day, performing simultaneously in three places,” said Tarafdar.
“In Guwahati, the programme will be held at Khanapara veterinary field, whereas in Bongaigaon, the programme will be held at Ganesh Maidan. Despite the examination issue of the students of some academy, we are trying our best to touch the highest number of performers ever,” said Tarafdar.
“There is no limitation on the number of participants and their age, coming from each club or schools of different region of the state. We have consulted the schools and dance clubs from all over the state like Guwahati, Nalbari, Rangiya, Barpeta and Kokrajhar,” he added.
“The participants will be given certificates after the programme. It will be an hourlong performance on Bihu. We will invite chief minister Sarbanada Sonowal to inaugurate the programme,” said Tarafdar.
“Arrangements for participants will definitely be there. The specific characteristic of this programme is that it will be performed universally at home and abroad on the same day simultaneously, according to Indian Standard Time,” said Swagata Das, the local coordinator of the organisation at Bongaigaon.
