BDDC reiterates Bhandari District demand

Nagaland News

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 4: The Bhandari District Demand Committee (BDDC) has reiterated the demand for up-gradation of Bhandari ADC HQ to District HQ.

In a statement, BDDC convener W Yingashumo Kithan and secretary Chenithung Humtsoe stated that Bhandari is one of the oldest Sub-Divisions in Nagaland and was recognized as an administrative centre in 1957 while still a part of Assam’s Naga Hills District. Later it was upgraded to a full-fledged Sub-Division in 1981 and subsequently upgraded to ADC Hqs in 1992.
Bhandari ADC jurisdiction has an area of 778.74 sq kms with 73 recognized villages having a population of 50,000 (approx.) and has 4 administrative blocks – Ralan SDO (C), Baghty (EAC), Changpang (EAC) and Bhandari Sardar (ADC), it said.
The BDDC informed that after prolonged processes obtaining endorsement from apex Lotha Hoho and recommendation of the District Planning and Developmental Board, the memorandum of Bhandari District Demand has already been forwarded to the Government of Nagaland.
“Therefore, any omission and commission on the merits of the feasibility of our demand is in the prerogative of the Government and the State constituted Districts re-organizing Committee”, it said while expressing hope that the State Government will take up the issues on priority for inclusive holistic development in the region.
