BBBP awareness rally held across State

Dimapur, January 23: The State Resource Centre for Women – Women Helpline-181, Sakhi-One Stop Centre in collaboration with Nagaland State Social Welfare Board and the Directorate of Social Welfare visited the Maternity Ward of Naga Hospital Authority, Kohima to felicitate girl children and mothers as part of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) Week in commemoration of the National Girl Child Day 2019.
SRCW officials were accompanied by K. Atoli Sema, Joint Director of Social Welfare, Kezevio Kuotsu, Assistant Director, Dr Abei K. Angami, HoD, Obs & Gynae Department along with Medical Officers, CDPOs of Kohima, Jakhama, Chiephobozou & Tsemenyu and the staffs of Women Helpline and Sakhi-One Stop Centre.
Gifts were given to both the girl child and all the mothers with a message that girl child is a blessing and today even the Government is doing its best to celebrate the life of the girl child.
One of the official recounted that during her child’s delivery they had made a lot of preparations but there were incidents of mothers who were unable to bring even the basic need of their child because of poverty. Through this scheme she emphasized that though the action is small may it send ripples in the society to welcome every child with love and gladness.
The programme was initiated to celebrate the birth of the girl child, encourage the parents to bring up their child at par with the boys and to spread the awareness among people about the security and education of the girl child.
Mon: Flash mobs were performed in different parts of Mon town on January 23 as a part of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign. The team comprised of 16 female from Mon town.
The programme was organised by the district administration of Mon as awareness programme to ‘save the girl child and educate the girl child’.
Chukitong: The Chukitong Block Task Force for Beti Bachao Beti Padhao flagged off the signature campaign at Chukitong Town as well as at Tsungiki village on January 22. EAC Chukitong, Imliakum Sanglir, while launching the campaign, encouraged the area council chairmen and head GBs and the local people to participate in the BBBP campaign in order to make this program a great success.
The participants were encouraged to endorse their signatures on the BBBP Banners in support of this campaign. The signature campaign will continue till January 26.
Bhandari: The BBBP public awareness rally was held at Bhandari Sub-Division on January 22 under the theme “Save the girl child, Educate the girl child”.
A short programme was held where oath taking/pledge ceremony and flagging of signatures was conducted at local ground, Bhandari.
ADC Bhandari, Tiameren Chang, expressed deep appreciation for supporting BBBP programme. He urged them to encourage the girl child to achieve their goals and to give them equal opportunity in every field.
ADC Bhandari also informed that National Girl Child Day will be celebrated at the Town Hall on January 24.
The pledge of BBBP was also taken which was led by EAC Bhandari T.Sulanthung Lotha.
