Awareness camp for adolescent girls held at Peren

Dimapur, March 17: A one day district awareness camp for the adolescent girls was organized by the Department of Social Welfare, Peren as part of Poshan Abhiyaan at Jalukie Town Hall on March 15.
Speaking on the theme, guest speaker Dr M Nukshisangla Jamir, DPO, Rural Child Health & Universal Immunization Program (RCH&UIP), Peren said a healthy person means not just the absence of diseases but complete physical, mental and emotional well being. One of the most important component to be healthy as an adolescent is cleanliness because at this stage the body goes through a series of changes and by being unhealthy/sick, we are bringing down the economy of the community in particular and the nation in general, Jamir said.
Stressing on the right age for marriage, she informed the participants that the right age for marriage is 28-32 as the reproductive age group for women is from 15-45 years.
Meanwhile, CDPO Tening, Yanbeni Humtsoe, presented a brief highlight about the contents of the Adolescent girls handbook titled “Handbook for awareness on health, nutrition, right age of marriage, social issues & legal rights for adolescent girls”.
Altogether, a total of 259 adolescent girls attended the programme. Later, sanitary napkins and the handbook was distributed to the adolescent girls who came to attend the programme.
