Dimapur, July 20: The Angami Students’ Union (ASU) held a short launching programme for the Cell-phone Outreach Project cum felicitation of ASU Tribunal General at ASU Headquater office premise in Kohima on July 20 .
The project has been initiated keeping in mind the challenges and barriers faced by students and families coming from economically poor background.
The ASU said non-availability or limited cell-phone have posed a grief challenge for these students wherein for a family of more than three or four school goers, problem arises such as when the classes or exams are conducted at the same time, the Secretary Education,Thepfurüya Theunuo while sharing the concept note underscored.
Observing the problem, he pointed that ASU of 2021-23 tenure have come out with a small-scale project of distributing cell phones to the targeted students. “It is not a mere project of distributing cell phones but with the intention to help those who are genuinely in need, goal-driven and sincere in their studies,” he added.
During the programme, the ASU also elected new Tribunal General and members. Neizokho Belho was announced as tribunal general, while Vizokho Zashümo and Abei Thepa as members.
Earlier, ASU President Bisevi Nakhro chaired the programme Rev ZakiebeinyüPeseyie said prayer. The words of gratitide was delivered by Mhalevilie Medoze, General Secretary.
In the first phase, through sponsors and benefactors, 30 cell-phones where distributed. While the project is on a rolling basis, the ASU will continue to identify needy students and cater to the same.
Meanwhile, the office also urged the students not to misuse the cell-phone such as mobile gaming which may hamper their academic learning but to remember the purpose and make the best use of the resource.
The ASU also congratulated the successful HSLC and HSSLC 2021 students and wished the best in their future endeavors.
