Says council has been coerced by NSCN (IM) to level the false allegations
DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 17: The Assam Rifles has refuted claims by the Dhansiripar Village Council (DVC) that the former had raided the residence of Kishore Jeedung on February 10 “without any valid reason”.
In a rejoinder issued on Wednesday, the AR stated that based on specific information from intelligence agencies, a search operation was launched that particular day.
“Inputs suggested that a meeting of armed cadres was underway at the residence of Kishore Jeedung. However, due to non-availability of the house owner or gaon burah, the house was not even searched in the first place. Ground sources have indicated that Dhansiripar Village Council has been coerced by NSCN (IM) to level the false allegations,” it stated.
It reiterated that security forces are mandated to carry out operations to ensure peace in their area of responsibility. The allegations are clearly an afterthought aimed at discrediting and discouraging security forces from doing their bonafide duties, it asserted, adding that the Indian army and Assam Rifles remain committed to being the sentinels of peace in the Northeast.
