Assam asks Nagaland to stop construction work in border areas


Dimapur, January 9: Principal Secretary to Government of Assam, L S Changsan IAS has requested Nagaland Home Commissioner, R Ramakrishnan IAS to direct the concerned authorities to stop construction of a three storied building by one Naga person and a huge poultry breeding and satellite farming by another person at Havishe village under Golaghat district of Assam to avoid breach of peace and tranquility in the Assam-Nagaland bordering areas.
In a letter to Nagaland Home Commissioner, Changsan stated that he had received the reports of the construction by Naga persons in the said village from Deputy Commissioner, Golaghat.
He stated that though the Central Force (155 Bn CRPF) deployed on Assam-Nagaland border has been repeatedly asking the owners to stop the construction but they are not responding and carrying out the construction works.
DC Golaghat has reported that DC Dimapur had been requested to take necessary steps for stopping the activities through a letter dated 9/4/2018 but still the construction works are said to be going on.
Quoting the minutes of the Ministry of Home Affairs held on January 5, 2005 at New Delhi, the Principal Secretary stated that it was agreed that both the state government would maintain status quo in the Disturbed Area Belt (DAB) and the entire Assam-Nagaland border, till the boundary dispute was decided by Supreme Court.
As per agreement, no new settlement/construction would be erected by either state Government in the dispute area till the matter which is pending before the Supreme Court is decided.
