Dimapur, May 1: The Assam Rifles Training Centre and School conducted a special event to facilitate the workers of Shokhuvi and Dimapur stations on the occasion of 97th International Labour Day.
Labour Day known as ‘Workers Day’ is dedicated to workers in recognition of their economic and social contribution.
To express solidarity with workers during this difficult time of the COVID-19 pandemic, ARTC&S reached out to all workers, labourers and porters of Dimapur and Shokhuvi garrisons, said an ARTC&S release.
Stating that due to the ongoing lockdown, workers/labourers residing in nearby villages were facing acute shortage of daily supplies, it said besides providing accommodation, the Assam Rifles Training Centre and School pooled in resources and has been providing supplies and essential rations to 218 workers since the beginning of the lockdown on March 24.
The event was organized to create awareness on issues like forced labour, minimum wage law and rights of the workers. Free meals were also organized for the labourers.
