Ariana Grande finally broke her silence about the death of her ex-boyfriend Mac Miller as she penned a touching tribute to him.
The 25-year-old singer took to Instagram on Friday to post a short video with a heartbreaking caption which described how much she ‘adored’ him and that she wishes she could have ‘fixed’ him.
Perhaps the most poignant moment came when she wrote: ‘I’m so sorry i couldn’t fix or take your pain away. i really wanted to.’
The short video features an intimate moment with her ex-boyfriend during their courtship together.
She is not shown in the video but could be heard asking Miller to tell her a story before he playfully tries to cover up her phone and they share a laugh together.
The talented singer began the lengthy caption: ‘i adored you from the day i met you when i was nineteen and i always will. i can’t believe you aren’t here anymore. i really can’t wrap my head around it.’
Grande seemingly goes on to write that she and Miller had talked about his fate several times.
She continued: ‘I’m so mad, i’m so sad i don’t know what to do. you were my dearest friend. for so long. above anything else.
‘i’m so sorry i couldn’t fix or take your pain away. i really wanted to. the kindest, sweetest soul with demons he never deserved. i hope you’re okay now. rest.’
This was the first time she has made a statement regarding Miller’s death though she did share an uncaptioned image of him on Saturday.
Grande was there for late rapper Mac Miller during tough times.
The songstress is said to have been an ‘incredible’ support to the artist, who passed away at only 26-years-old last Friday, as he struggled with sobriety, according to Mac’s close friend Shane Powers.
[Ariana] was an unbelievably stabilizing force in his life,’ the actor explained as he opened up on his podcast The Shane Show Monday.
Ariana dated Mac, birth name Malcolm James McCormick, for about two years, splitting in May. Very shortly after she began her relationship with SNL comedian Pete Davidson.
‘There was no one in his life more ready to go to the wall for him when it came to him being sober,’ Shane said of the God Is A Woman singer’s dedication.
Mac’s close friend divulged a few details about the couple’s relationship, sharing: ‘They were very much in love and I have to say, she was incredible when he was first sobering up.’
‘She was a f*cking G to him. There could not have been anybody more supportive of him being sober than Ariana. I saw that, I was around it. I took phone calls from her. “How do I help,” “what do I do?”‘
‘This little girl was unbelievably involved and helpful to him being healthy. Because whether he was an addict of not, the way that Mac partied was not healthy. I gotta tell you,’ Shane continued.
Miller’s struggle with sobriety was no secret. Shortly after his split with Ariana in May Mac was arrested for a DUI hit-and-run in Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, Ariana is said to be ‘heartbroken’ since Miller’s passing last week.
‘She is absolutely heartbroken,’ said a source who spoke with UsWeekly. ‘Her entire family is in shock too. They all grew close to Mac during his relationship with Ari.
‘He was a huge part of her life, and they always shared such a special bond. She wanted nothing but positivity in Mac’s life after they broke up.’
Ariana, who became engaged in June, has kept her mourning private since Mac’s death.
