
Dimapur, December 2: In day three of the league stage of inaugural Assam Rifles Sentinel’s
Football Cup, four more matches, two each in the morning and afternoon were played at Shokhuvi and 3rd Mile, Dimapur respectively.
In the first session of the day, 165 Battalion Territorial Army team overcame Optimus Football Club from Nagaland with a score of 7-0. Arunachal’s Patkai Warriors beat Meghalaya’s Warbath Football club by 7-3.
In the second session, Mizoram Football club scored a major upset over Imphal East
Football club (Manipur) by beating them by 3-1.
In the last match of the day in a highly spirited and contested match Assam Rifles team beat 164 Battlion Territorial Army team 2-1.
The league matches will continue on December 3 with four more matches as scheduled.
33 goals in 3 matches
Thirty-three goals were scored in three matches on Day-2 of the Assam Rifles Sentinel’s of the North East Football Tournament being played at Sukhowi and 3rd Mile, Dimapur on Thursday.
An AR release informed that in the first match, team from Manipur trounced team from Nagaland by a huge margin if 15-01. In the 2nd match, Assam Rifles defeated Meghalaya 8-1.
In another match, 165 Territorial Army team defeated ‘Tripura Tigers’ 7-1.
Another match between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh saw the Assam team staging a walkout after in a seemingly equal challenge till the game turned nasty. The players from Assam staged a walk out after two of their players received red cards for disorderly conduct. The win was awarded to Arunachal team after the walkout.
