APO reiterates decision on ULB polls

DIMAPUR, MARCH 18: The Angami Public Organization (APO) has reiterated its decision to not allow the conduct of election to Municipal and Town Councils in Angami territories (Chümoukedima, Dimapur & Kohima Districts) till “a space is provided for the amendment” of Nagaland Municipal Act “and necessary and clear-cut safeguard is provided to Article 371 (A)”.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, the APO relayed its decision to reaffirm its “infamous resolution” taken on December 11, 2016 in respect of ULB election in Nagaland. it informed that the decision was taken at an “extraordinary executive meeting” held on March 17.
“After marathon discussion over the issue of Nagaland Municipal Act of 2001 vis-à-vis coming ULB election, the house unanimously resolved to reaffirm its resolution of 11/12/2016 which read: Till such a space is provided for the amendment and necessary and clear-cut safeguard is provided to Article 371 (A), the APO has resolved not to allow the conduct of election to municipal and town councils in the Angami territories (Chumoukedima, Dimapur & Kohima Districts). Therefore, in this connection the APO appeal to all political parties, intending candidates and individuals to refrain from filling or nominating any candidate for the aforementioned elections. Any action in violation of this resolution shall be viewed as a direct challenge to the APO”, it stated.
The APO once appealed to Nagaland Government to “seriously feel the pulse of the public” and rectify all points in the Act which are “against the interest of the Naga public”.
The APO further urge the State Government to seriously review the issue of women reservation before the coming Municipal and Town Council election in the State, it stated.
