APO concerned by quality of 4-lane road construction

Dimapur, April 13: The Angami Public Organisation (APO) has raised concern over construction quality, safety and continuous connectivity of the four lane road (NH 29), and sought timely intervention and action from the State Government.
In a letter to the Chief Secretary, Nagaland, the APO expressed apprehension that national highway in Nagaland are made just to facilitate the connectivity of security forces and not in the National Highway norms or standard, and urge the Chief Secretary to ensure that the quality of construction abide by the NH standards as provided to all the other states.
The APO also expressed fear that with the impending summer monsoon resulting in change and increase in precipitation and moisture, the NH 29 will fall prey to numerous mud slides and landslides. It drew attention to the fact that the stretch from Patkai to Piphema consists of steep mostly rocky hills and mountains, which can turn out to be dangerous for plying private and commercial vehicles.
“The timely construction before or after the monsoons holds the key to safety along this particular stretch,” it said and strongly insisted that the authority direct all the concerned companies, contractors etc to ensure the safety of plying vehicles and also the continuous connectivity of Kohima and Dimapur.
The APO also extended full cooperation to the Government in any way possible for the betterment of the society.
