Anxiety as PHC non-functional at Tokiye Block

Tokiye PHC

DIMAPUR, MAY 15: At a time when COVID cases and deaths are rapidly rising across the State, the Public Health Centre (PHC) under Tokiye Block, at Aghunato Sub-division, in Zunheboto District, is without a Doctor and other healthcare workers, except for one Nurse.

This has caused great anxiety to the public of all the surrounding areas and villages, as they are now left with no proper healthcare facilities.
Kasuho P Yepthomi, Chairman of the Tokiye Range Kukami (GBs) Union, said that it has been more than a month since the PHC is without a Doctor, after the previous one was transferred and her replacement has not yet been sent.
Tokiye Town and its 7 adjacent villages have a population of more than 10,000. He said that it is problematic for them to seek medical assistance at Aghunato Town or Zunheboto Town as they are far away. The PHC at Tokiye is the only healthcare facility for the people of the area, the Chairman contended.
He said that they have written to the Department of Health of Family Welfare for immediate deployment of a Doctor and the requisite Staff at the PHC.
According to the Chairman, he has heard of other Staff members being appointed by the Government but has never seen them at the PHC.

The PHC also does not have proper infrastructure, medical equipments and other facilities, which has left the people of the area fearful in the event any COVID-19 positive case is detected there, he stated.
Shockingly, there is no means of water supply at the PHC, the Chairman further informed.
