Alobo Naga & The Band (ANTB), the celebrated MTV EMA 2012 ‘Best Indian Act’ award winner, has announced their return with a new single titled ‘TGIF’ (Thank God It’s Friday). This track is set to feature on their upcoming EP and exemplifies the band’s continued evolution in terms of sound and genres.
ANTB, a unique pop-rock ensemble from Dimapur, Nagaland, was formed in 2011 and quickly gained fame following the release of their video single ‘Painted Dreams’. This single was premiered on VH1 in August 2011 and its massive popularity led to the band’s nomination and subsequent win at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2012 for the Best Indian Act.
‘TGIF’, a captivating dance-rock song, is an ANTB production in collaboration with producers Vivek Chetri, Noel Zoek and Tongs Kichu from ODE Studio. According to Alobo Naga, the band’s frontman, the song is a tribute to the working class, expressing their yearning to escape the pressures of the week and embrace the fun and relaxation that the weekend brings.
The music video accompanying the song has been directed by the acclaimed Vito Sumi, in collaboration with Studio Lagom, and features Uto Chishi. The video is set in Dimapur and Guwahati, the latter being the location where ANTB shot their breakthrough music video ‘Painted Dreams’ back in 2011. It tells the story of a loner working a conventional 9-5 job, who dreams of breaking the mold to become a Rockstar and enjoy weekends filled with parties.
Over the past 12 years, ANTB has performed in over 600 shows nationally and internationally in countries like Kenya, Tanzania, Singapore, Indonesia, among others. The band has also graced the stages of premier festivals and venues in India, such as NH7 Weekender, NEF Delhi, South East Asian Band Festival, KYF Festival, Hornbill Festival, Radio City Freedom Awards, Rongali Festival, Hard Rock Café, and Blue Frog.
ANTB’s music is known for its genre-blending and reflective lyrics, predominantly based on youth, society, and love. The band, consisting of Alobo Naga (lead vocals, songwriter, and keyboards), Fung Walling (bass guitar, backing vocals), and David Sunar (Drums), is characterized by their consistent effort to create unique and impactful music.
‘TGIF’ is available for viewing on the band’s official YouTube page @antbofficial and can also be streamed on major music platforms, such as Spotify and iTunes.
