Angling competition held at Wokha

Dimapur, July 25: First promotional local angling competition was held on July 21 at Tsumang Lake, Wokha organized by the District Angler’s Wokha Nagaland (DAWN), with Deputy Commissioner Wokha, Dr Manazir Jeelani Samoon, IAS as the special guest. The competition was organized in collaboration with Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.
DC Wokha, during the prize distribution ceremony, said the competition organized by the angler’s association is not just for recreation purpose but for a cause and added that such initiative will go a long way in generating awareness among the common masses regarding the conservation of fishes and stated that angling need to be taken up as a sport activity with a cause.
Johny Ezung, Rensathung Kikon and M Yilobemo were adjudged the first, second and third respectively and were awarded Rs 20,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000. More than 30 prizes were given in different categories to the anglers. 69 years old Ekyimo Erui was the oldest angler and he was awarded with a cash prize and certificate, while the luckiest angler was bagged by Simon Kikon.
Short speeches were also delivered by Sentinaro, DFO Wokha, Angler’s Association Nagaland (AAN) and Dr Mhonchan Shitiri.
