Dimapur, October 16: The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has appealed for an early settlement to the long pending Naga political issue.
“The ANCSU wish to appeal through your honored office, that an early settlement to the long pending Naga political issue should be resolved, not obliviating the sovereign rights of the Nagas,” it said in a memorandum to the Governor of Nagaland, who is also India’s interlocutor to the Indo-Naga talks.
The memorandum signed by ANCSU president Katho P Awomi and general secretary Vimeyiekho Vitso said the decade long pending Naga political issue has put doubts and fears in the minds of the Nagas. However, it said with him being assigned to address the Naga issue as the interlocutor and now as the Governor of Nagaland have revived the hopes of the Nagas for an early settlement.
“Whereas, over the years the Government of India has deliberately not prioritize the Naga political issue, it is an earnest appeal to the Government of India to recognize and acknowledge the unique political rights of the Nagas.”
“We aspire that the settlement should be honorable and acceptable to the Nagas. It is of firm belief that, a great nation like India would not deviate from its commitment to solve the Naga issue,” it added.
