Dimapur, June 3: The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has come out strongly against the Food & Civil Supplies Department for alleged “ill practices and corruption” in the department.
In an open letter to the Advisor, Food & Civil Supplies, ANCSU U/A speaker Pithungo Shitio alleged that the Department of Food and Civil Supplies is “good for only few vested individuals i.e. the Non-Locals who has been procuring the permits in the name of a person who is a local resident to syndicate the entire food grains and other essential commodities, some V.I.Ps and some officials of the department who has been exploiting the department but there is nothing for the benefits of the public as they are less sensitized and not well informed about the all kind of various schemes that are being implemented by the department.”
ANCSU alleged that food grains meant for the public are diverted to various machineries (also owned by the non-locals) for polishing and re-packing which are sold in an open markets at the rate 10 times higher than the actual fair price. It claimed that the little amount of food grains and other essential commodities that are being distributed to the beneficiaries are all compromised in quality and in quantity.
Stating that other NGOs and some individuals had raised the issue of scam in the Public Distribution System, fuel adulteration and other issues relating to the department, ANCSU said it has located some infrastructures in and around Dimapur where syndication are being carried out without any fear of consequences taking the advantage of the public ignorance. It requested the Advisor, F&CS to initiate necessary action before the department encounters any humiliation once the details of such activities are revealed.
On raising the issue, ANCSU said while it is a responsible students’ organisation whose endeavour is to protect the rights of the student’s fraternity and promote its interest, it however said it also share concerns against all kinds of ill practices and corruptions that exploits the good office of the public.
