Dimapur, May 4: Amigos FC lifted the 6th Frolic Cup 2019 defeating Fury FC in the finals today by 2 goals to nil.
Though rain played spoilsports, both the teams did not disappoint the spectators who had gathered in large number to witness the finals. Despite the slippery conditions due to rain, both the team fought for every ball. Midfielders were hard at work to dominate the play. It was in the 15th minute when Khriese of Amigos broke the deadlock. The lead was very fragile as the Fury continued with their counter attack.
The second half continued with a determined Fury trying to make a comeback but lacking the finishing touch. The Amigos failed to increase their lead when their striker was bought down in the D-Box and was awarded a spot kick. A fine save by the keeper kept their chances alive.
In the 63rd minute, Amigos FC striker Khriese found the net again with a fine strike from inside the box. The remaining match saw the Amigos dominate the match till the last whistle.
In the closing function, Er.Daniel Kevie, Sub-Divisional Officer PWD(R&B) Pfutsero Division graced the occasion as the special guest. In his speech, he lamented the years lost in producing athletes in all fields though Nagas are blessed with talent. He said it is time for Nagas to walk the talk.
Citing our laziness and lack of discipline as our greatest weakness, he encouraged the player to come out from it and make a mark in the field they choose.
He concluded his speech with challenges to every Naga to be selfless and supportive for a better society.
