ALFA Riders (boys) and HMC School (girls) win Inter-Dist Kabaddi Championship

Dimapur, March 13: ALFA Riders (boys) and HMC School (girls) emerged as the winners of the third edition of Junior (Boys & Girls) Inter District Kabaddi Championship which was held on Saturday here at the ground of Neingulie Memorial High School Dimapur.

The event had the presence of MLA Kuzholuzo Azo Neinu as the chief guest and principal & propitiator of St. Mary’s Hr. Sec. School, Dimapur Neena Dutta as guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Neinu said that Nagaland falls short when it comes to professionalism and though people here are jack of all trades, becoming master of something is the need of the hour.
Congratulating the players and extending best wishes to those who would be now selected to represent the state in the upcoming national championship to be organized in Telengana by All Indian Kabaddi Federation hosted by Telengana Kabaddi Association, he said that they should work hard, bring laurels to the state and be in the limelight.
He also briefed the players, organizers and the spectators about the history of the game starting from its origin about 4000 years ago in modern Tamil Nadu to how it took the game 70 years to reach Nagaland after the formation of All India Kabaddi Federation in 1950.
Neena Dutta in her remark had said that games like Kabaddi and Kho Kho should be played more along with the popular games in the state like cricket, football, and basketball and urged the players to practice the game more and understand that sports is also important along with studies.
In the welcome address, president of Nagaland Kabaddi Association Dr. S. Amos Longkumer mentioned that the association came into being in the year 2019 and is in the process of being affiliated under Nagaland Olympic Association.
Organised by Nagaland Kabaddi Association, the third edition of the tournament saw the participation of nine teams representing different schools in the state. Among the participants, a total of 16 players each from both the categories (boys and girls) will now be selected to represent Nagaland in the upcoming national tournament in Telangana.

The first and second runners-up in the third edition were AG Hr. Sec. School (boys), SD Jain Hr. Sec. School (girls) and ITT Club (boys), Neingulie Memorial High School Dimapur (girls) respectively. The winners and runners-up were awarded certificate and trophies. (Page News Service)
