There’s more to Akshay Kumar, than just his acting chops and fitness. He’s also known to have a caring nature.
Acid attack survivor and award-winning activist Laxmi Agarwal opened up about her financial condition and unemployment. She spoke about how she was struggling to make ends meet with a low income as an activist. She said that she had not been getting jobs in call centers for a year, which just made her struggle even worse.
Akshay stepped in to help. According to reports, he directly transferred Rs 5 lakh to her account. He said that it was a tiny gesture and the primary idea was to help Laxmi find jobs, without having to worry about rent and child support. He added that when a person is in need of livelihood, medals and awards do not pay bills.
In an interview to Hindustan Times, he said, “My contribution is a very small gesture. I am embarrassed to even mention it. The idea is that Laxmi should be able to search for a job with dignity, without having to worry about paying house rent or stressing about not being able to provide a nutritious meal to her baby. I wish people realise that when a person is in need of livelihood, medals, awards and certificates don’t pay the bills. It’s important to support through practical means.”
Laxmi was overwhelmed by his generosity, and thanked him and others who offered help. She is also been getting several film offers.
