AICU 7th Working Committee meeting underway


Dimapur, May 26: The All India Catholic Union 7th Working Committee Meeting is in progress at Don Bosco Institute for Development and Leadership (DIBDL) Dimapur. The Working Committee Meeting was inaugurated by Most Rev. Dr. Gerald John Mathias, the Bishop of Lucknow Diocese and Chairman for the Laity CCBI, on Friday as the Chief Conferrer. The occasion was also graced by the presence of Most Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, the Bishop of Kohima Diocese, Dr. John Dayal, Social Activist and Former National President of AICU as Special Conferrer and Lancy D’ Cunha, the National President of All India Catholic Union (AICU) as the main presider of the program.
The Working committee meeting was hosted by the Catholic Association of Nagaland (CAN) as Catholic Laity Association of Nagaland.
Bishop Gerald John Mathias celebrated the inaugural Holy Mass invoking the graces and fruits of the Holy Spirit.
In his homily he stressed on the working of the Power of the Holy Spirit in the church in our times. He challenged the assembly to become authentic witnesses of the Gospel. He further exhorted the gathering to be more of a witnessing person than the example or preachers.
The second session of the inaugural function began soon after the Holy Mass celebration. The session was Chaired by Johnny Ruangmei, OSD Disaster Management, Government of Nagaland. The Chief Conferrer , Most Rev. Dr. Gerald John Mathias exhorted the gathering based on the Apostolic Exhortation Gaudete et Exsultate ([Rejoice and be Glad (Mt. 5:12)] of Pope Francis on the Call to Holiness in Today’s World.
Bishop James Thoppil, while speaking on the occasion acknowledged the contribution of Catholic Laity Association in Nagaland for the growth of the Church. He specially mentioned that the Catholics faithful have made a head way long for the missionary work. He opined that the church in Nagaland is a Laity led Church. He encouraged the delegates of AICU to be the forerunner of integrity in the society.
During the Interactive Session Dr. John Dayal, Social Activist and former National President of AICU as Special Conferrer and Elias T Lotha, Commissioner Transport, Government of Nagaland were the speakers who briefed on the Topic “Understanding the Uniform Civil Code and similar Laws”.
Dr. John Dayal stressed on the Current Trend in the country and called upon the gathering to be aware and knowledgeable about the facts.
Elias T Lotha substantiated the former speaker and pointed on the freedom to develop advocacy in the society. The question and answer session preceded the presentation from the speakers.
Elias Vas National Vice President (AICU), presented the concluding remark of the session.
It is also reported that All India Catholic Union was established in 1919, registered under Societies Registration Act 1860 and it is the representative of the Catholic Laity, of India with affiliated units nationwide. AICU is a democratic federation with affiliated Catholic Associations across the Diocese/Districts in India. It is a non- political body, and it seeks to represent and strengthen the Catholic Community and country, in the socio-religious, political, and economic fields.
Earlier Dr. N. Simon Dzüvichü, President CAN, accorded the words of welcome to all the special guests and delegates. Around 50 delegates for outside Nagaland and 60 delegates from Nagaland were reported to be registered for the meeting. The highlights of the program witnessed a folk dance and voice of Nagaland and presentation of gifts to all the Delegates from all over India. Er. MhasetoNakro, Secretary General, CAN, proposed the vote of thanks. Fr. Chacko Karinthayil, Director Shalom Rehabilitation Centre, Chumoukedima, invoke God’s blessing to all the members of AICU.
