AFSPA in 8 Assam districts

GUWAHATI, MARCH 30: In exercise of powers conferred under Section 3 of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), 1958 and in suppression of earlier notification issued on October 15, 2022, the State Government declared the 8 districts as ‘Disturbed Areas’ for 6 months with effect from April 1, 2023.
The Assam Government had declared the areas covering 8 districts and 1 Sub-Division: Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Golaghat, Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao and Lakhipur Sub-Division of the Cachar district as ‘Disturbed Area’ for a further period of 6 months with effect from October 1, 2022 following a notification issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
A review of the law and order and security scenario in Assam indicates that there is continued requirement for keeping the above mentioned areas except the Lakhipur Sub-Division as ‘Disturbed Area’ for 6 months with effect from April 1, 2023. (Agencies)
