African Swine Flu outbreak in Phek, Kiphire

Dimapur, May 1: An outbreak of African Swine Flu (ASF) has been reported in the districts of Phek and Kiphire, which is highly infectious and contagious haemorrhagic viral disease of pigs and 100% fatal with no treatment and vaccine.
DC Phek, Razouvolie Dozo in a notification issued today requested the general public to remain cautious and vigilant and report any unusual mortality of domestic pigs & feral pigs to the office of the Chief Veterinary officer, Phek.
The DC said control, containment, surveillance and following of bio-security measures are the only way to eradicate ASF. He notified village councils, public, pig farmers to report unusual dead of pigs to the nearest veterinary health centres immediately. The DC also directed the Chief Veterinary officer to monitor the situation and create awareness to contain the spread of African Swine Flu. (Page News Service)
