Adi Mahotsav begins in Dimapur


Dimapur, August 10: The 10-day Adi Mahotsav organized by Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India Ltd (TRIFED), under the aegis of Ministry of Tribal Affairs, got underway today at Durga Mandir hall here.
The event was inaugurated by Managing Director, MARCOFED, T Vikuto Zhimo. Talking to media persons, Zhimo said that the event has been organized to showcase tribal artisans to exhibit their products cum sale of tribal handicrafts, art paintings, fabrics, jewellery and organic products and also to channelize and promote tribal natural skill and provide them source of income.
Appreciating TRIFED for organizing Adi Mahotsav in Nagaland, he hoped that the objective was to promote the livelihood of tribal artisans and to market their produce. He believed that through the exhibition, people of Northeast would benefit.
Regional Manager of TRIFED, M R Singh said that this was the first time, the Mahotsav is being organized in Nagaland where participants from Mizoram, Meghalaya, Assam, Nagaland and Sikkim are participating. He also informed that participants from Jharkhand and other states would also join soon.
He informed that Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur could not attend due to bad road conditions.
At present there are 24 stalls at the Mahotsaw exhibiting tribal craftsmanship and organic products. Some 9 to 10 are likely to join them soon.
